About Us

Cefn Coed (Back of the woods) is a historical Welsh farm property with origins dating back to the 17th Century. It is situated 4 miles from the picturesque market town of Dolgellau, in the heart of Snowdonia National Park, enjoying an idyllic setting in a sheltered valley of Ancient Oak Woodland where the magnificent Cader Idris rolls down into the Mawddach Estuary.

Surrounded by it's own 75 acres of farmland and forests, Cefn Coed provides a rare degree of freedom and escape from the fast pace of modern society. Ideally located for exploring Snowdonia, miles of walking, cycling and riding paths are easily accessible, including the famous Mawddach Trail, allowing you to reconnect with nature and enjoy the sense of tranquility that comes with it.

our Philosophy

At Cefn Coed, we are grounded in the philosophy of living lightly on the land in harmony with nature. We seek to provide you with an environment in which you can rediscover your sense of connection with nature & the earth, to restore your sense of vitality and adventure within surroundings of outstanding natural beauty.

Our Wild Camping pitches are entirely off-grid, set in 75 acres of woodland and meadows, allowing our guests to fully immerse themselves in the wildlife and environment. Our aim is to create a Wild Camping experience that is accessible for all to benefit from and enjoy, in a sustainable and conscious manner.

Biodiversity

We are committed to sustaining and protecting the ancient woodland that we are so privileged to be able to share. Our pitches are located within natural clearings in the woodlands and we are passionate about planting and encouraging native trees, flora and fauna. Campers are requested to assist in our woodland management scheme by buying the sustainably sourced firewood we sell and not collecting dead wood from the woodland floor.

Off Grid

As a Wild Campsite, all of our pitches are entirely off-grid. Our water is independently sourced from a mountain spring and conserved for use within our shower and low-flush toilet facilities. We use solar panels for our limited energy use & rely on excellent insulation with log burning stoves for heating in the colder months. We harvest rainwater and work with local suppliers to create our delicious home-cooked meals.

Leave No Trace

As a ‘leave no trace’ site we ask that guests take all rubbish away when checking out. This helps to support the sustainability of our woodland, protect the wildlife who are permanently homed here & assists us in achieving minimal impact.

In every walk in nature, one receives far more than he seeks.'“ John Muir
